Hearing Aids
Students are provided individual hearing aid machines. With the help of these machines and the training program, they have started attending to and listening to sounds in a better way and as a result, there is a visible improvement in their performance, especially academic.
Group hearing Aids
Group hearing aids are installed in the classrooms of senior students. It is a system where the teacher interacts through a microphone, which is connected to the headphones worn by the students. The hearing impaired students can adjust the volume of the headphones according to their comfort. Thus, they are able to hear and comprehend the information being provided by the teacher. Students have a microphones installed in front of them, through which they can reciprocate their views and thus interact with the teacher and other hearing impaired students in class. This system facilitates the learning process. All the students receive the same information at the same time, irrespective of the degree of loss.
Computerized Speech Therapy and Audiology (Audiometer)
A brief case history and medical reports of the children are seen/examined at the time of admission. The audiograms (hearing test reports) of all the hearing impaired students of the school are prepared and are available with the audiologist. After analysing the percentage of hearing loss, a hearing aid is provided to each child.
Every student of the school wears a hearing aid, which is a prerequisite for improving speech and language skills, which in turn facilitates and improves academic learning of the child. A computerized speech therapy programme was purchased for the benefit of hearing impaired students of the school. A doctor speech program has been installed in the computers for speech therapy.
Speech Therapy
For the younger children, an auditory trainer, picture cards and toys are used to improve speech output and to provide training for hearing. The younger children are first made aware of the presence of sound, the existence of which is not known to them. For the older children, the material and equipment like hearing aids, mirrors, picture cards, books, charts are used for improving and understanding language and speech tasks. Most of the children benefit and improve up to a functional level of speech. Students whose parents are illiterate and cannot help their wards in the learning process, are adequately counselled at regular intervals, with regards to handling of the child at home, for the purpose of improving their speech and language skills. Parents are also counseled about the hearing aid equipment and their handling and maintenance at home.
Auditory/Speech Trainer
Auditory trainer is an instrument which is used for the auditory training of the hearing impaired students.
Tape recorder
This instrument is useful for providing auditory feedback to the hearing impaired students. Through this, the students can listen to their all recorded speech and can correct themselves. Computer programmes with emphasis on vocabulary and pronunciation have also been installed.
Smart classes
The special Students get to pay more attention in class and find studying fun. Due to this technology, students gains education with the support of pictures and videos.
